F@@k Off Mr Bean

In a gloriously sanctimonious observation of policing in todays society - the aptly named Mr Justice Bean has decreed that swearing at police officers is no longer a crime simply because they hear it so often these days that they cannot possibly be offended by it.

Really ?

It's a safe bet that Mr Justice Bean has never come nose to nose with an angry man in his life never mind one screaming vile abuse in his face. Equally I'd venture he has never bothered to ask his itellectual self why it is police officers are abused with such regularity these days.

The reality is that each morning as he stands in front of the mirror donning his robes and wig - the answer to that question is staring straight back at him.

  1. Pasquinader it is actually you who is mistaken as is so often the case when someone ignorant jumps on a bandwagon of negativity when it comes to decisions by judges. The law states that it is only illegal to swear in public if it causes alarm or distress, the policemen in their report neglected to mention any alarm or distress so no law was actually broken. It would be a misjustice for Judge Bean to go against the law and apply his own rules due to public opinion or his own beliefs.

  2. Anonymous - if this case was judged on it's own merits as you describe then the verdict was no doubt the correct one in the absence of the vital evidence - however I find it difficult to belive you are correct since this particular matter is now case stated as I believe, thus creating the precedent that a police officer, per say, can no longer be alarmed or distressed by such language regardless of whether they include the fact that they were so in their evidence. That precedent would simply not have been created just because officers stupidly omitted to include the relevant points to prove in the original prosecution.

  3. I think it most heinous that officers employed by the public to uphold the laws - as agreed by parliament - to protect the public themselves, are so regularly abused by drug addled (be that drink or otherwise) members of such a public. It is a disgrace to think that these people, yes people, are abused so often that it can no-longer be considered alarming or distressing.

Surely, as a public, we can find it in our drunken hearts to treat the officers of the law with the due respect they deserve, for being on patrol at 4'o'clock in the morning! It shouldn't even take a judge to tell the people this - stop abusing police officers - why do we not just think about such things ourselves, and come to such obvious conclusions!?
